A month ago an 11-year-old girl was hospitalized after a grown man brutally raped her inside her home in Ladyville. Police have made no arrests and that’s why today the child’s grandmother spoke out. She believes Ladyville Police are disinterested in the case. The grandmother says that what makes it worse is that while the man she believes is the rapist roams freely, her grand daughter is out of school and at home recovering from the surgery she underwent because of the heinous attack. She says she has gotten no help from the police or the Human Development Department and that’s why she came to the media. To protect the identity of the child, we can’t reveal the name of the grandmother. We’ve also distorted her face.
Grandmother,
“We make the police know and everything and thing but we haven’t gotten any satisfaction at all. The police haven’t come and said, ‘Mam we are trying do something.’ I’ve given them the phone numbers to call me but they haven’t contacted me. So it really hurts me that this person is on the run and we can’t find this person.”
Keith Swift,
I know the rape was particular heinous and your grand daughter is only 11 years old.
Grandmother,
“She is only 11 years.”
Keith Swift,
She was raped and she had to be hospitalized.
Grandmother,
“Yes and she get an operation and all, she got an operation after they finished raping her and that thing so I feel bad that this thing had to happen. It is very bad and it is hurtful.”
Keith Swift,
And this happened three weeks ago and your granddaughter still has not been able to return to school.
Grandmother,
“No she hasn’t returned to school as yet, not as far as I know.”
Keith Swift,
Why you think police aren’t investigation?
Grandmother,
“To tell you the God’s truth I don’t really know because I send in phone calls and tell them where the person is and they don’t do anything. So like I just tired of telling them. They don’t tell me anything.”
Keith Swift,
Why is it important for you that this man be arrested?
Grandmother,
“Well because he shouldn’t have even do that. He shouldn’t even have lusted at that little girl because a lot of big women are out there. Why did he choose her. I don’t like the idea, I don’t situation like this at all. That boy is a devil, whosoever did it. I really need the police’s assistance, get up and work and arrest this person. I really need the person to be found.”
We couldn’t reach the officer specifically assigned to investigate the case but Ladyville police say investigations continue. The grandmother says she also contacted the Human Development Department and they were of no or little help.
