In 2005 – it made sensational headlines when a 15 year old was accused of killing twenty year old Mara Naomi Garcia with a samurai sword. That 15-year-old is now 18 years old – and because he is an adult, we can release his name; he is John Chessman and his trial started today in the Supreme Court before Justice Adolph Lucas. Garcia was found dead inside a home in the Hollywood area of Lord’s Bank, where she worked as a maid for Floyd Brown.
Brown was the first to take the stand and he testified that when he returned home on the evening of June tenth, 2005, he noted that the inner and outer burglar bar doors of the home were wide open. He told the court that inside the home he found a ransacked kitchen and inside the living room he saw the maid lying in a chair apparently dead with her head hanging forward and the floor next to the chair was covered with blood. Brown told the court it was a gruesome sight.
He also testified that he made checks of the bedrooms where he saw that the entire upstairs rooms were ransacked as items were thrown all over the place. Brown told the court that he noticed that two swords, an X-Box game, a black bag with personal documents and a cell phone were missing.
The trial continues on Monday morning at 9:00 – when one of the police men who responded to the scene is expected to testify. Chessman who is defended by attorney Simeon Sampson has maintained that he is innocent.
