According to police, Darren Banks has been connected to a number of the recent violent crimes in the city – including the death of prison officer Edgar Seguro who was killed in front of the Banks’ home. Well, the 28-year-old went to court today – but not for any vast criminal conspiracy, or any trove of firearms; instead he was accused of possession of 4 rounds of unlicensed ammunition. He appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie who read him charges of 2 counts of keeping unlicensed ammunition for having 2 rounds of point-223 ammunition along with two rounds of 5.56 ammunition – the types typically used in assault rifles. Banks was additionally charged with possession of a negligible 36 grams of marijuana.
Today as he left court, Banks told our camera that he was fed up with police harassment and threats.
Darren Banks,
“Tell the police dem to stop chance me. From yesterday I got charged and they didn’t want me to get my bail. From yesterday. Dah beef the man want with we. They talk they will kill my mom, my pickney, and all of that. I don’t have any convictions, not even one. I am no criminal.”
Banks was offered and met bail of $5,000 plus two sureties of $2,500 each. He was represented by Dickie Bradley. Police discovered the ammunition when they conducted a pre-dawn raid on his Oleander Street home yesterday at the opening of operation cycle breaker.
