A mother of 3, Ebony Flowers, has been charged for jacking a bicycle from a Hispanic man.

The 23-year-old domestic appeared in court #6 in front of magistrate Sharon Frazer and was charged with theft for depriving Jose Hernandez of his horizon brand beach cruiser bicycle valued at $185 dollars. On Tuesday, June 11, at about 7:30 p.m., while he was riding his bicycle on Lakeview street, Hernandez stopped for a group of females who were crossing the street. According to Hernandez, one of the females then grabbed him by his shirt causing to jump off his bicycle.

Hernandez said he then ran on to Logwood Street, leaving his bicycle behind. When he looked back, he saw one of the women pick up his bike and gave it to another female who then rode off on it into an alley which leads to Mayflowers street.

That’s when Hernandez ran to a near by police station where he got assistance, and pointed out to the police the females who had jacked him of his bicycle. Although police had detained two females, only one was arraigned in court today.

The prosecutor objected to bail despite the fact that Flowers had no previous convictions. The prosecutor told the court that because of the prevalence of the crime of theft which was on the rise, Flowers should not be granted bail. The prosecutor also objected because Flowers could try to interfere with the victim or that relatives can try and intimidate the victim.

Magistrate Frazer then asked the young mother if she had any reason why she should grant her bail but she remained silent. With that, Magistrate Frazer denied her bail and remanded her to the Hattieville prison for 17 days.

Ebony Flowers is expected back in Court on June 30, when bail will be considered on her behalf.
