Twenty six year old Shipyard resident Cornelius Schmitt is recovering from his gunshot injuries while police continue to look for the persons responsible for harming him and killing his co worker, twenty two year old Guinea Grass resident Emigidio Gomez. The pair was intercepted on the Hattieville/Boom Road around five fifteen on Monday evening when a black car drove directly in front of them forcing Gomez who was driving the truck to come to stop.

Three men came out of the car one of them armed with a handgun and forced Schmitt and Gomez into the car. They were then taken to the Coastal Road where they demanded money and that is when Schmitt handed over three hundred dollars and a bag containing his Belize passport and other documents.

Authorities believe the assailants were not satisfied with what they received and that is when one of them shot Schmitt two times to the neck and abdomen. As the gunshots rang out that is when Gomez ran off and they chased after him. As the men ran to catch Gomez that is when Schmitt managed to make his way onto the Coastal Road where he got assistance from a nearby resident and was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Around eleven thirty on Tuesday morning, Gomez’s body was discovered- hanging from a tree about two hundred and fifty yards off the Coastal Road. Gomez had a belt tied around his neck, he had been cut twice on his forehead and shot one time to the left side of his chest. Authorities would only tell 7NEWS that they have been following a number of leads but cannot say if the persons they are looking for are Belizeans.

Police say have not been able to locate the blue Ford ten wheeler the two men were travelling in. A bull dozer that was hitched to the truck has also not been found.
