Tonight, Brown’s Caye watchman Earl Young Crawford and his girlfriend, Myrtle Gill are still missing and there is increasing worry that they have been killed. They were last seen on Saturday on the caye, which is 9 miles southeast of Belize City. Today 7NEWS went out to the island and here’s what we found.
Jacqueline Godwin Reporting,
When we arrived on Brown’s Caye the scene remained untouched. We found blood inside this wooden building where the island’s watchman John Earl Young Crawford and his girlfriend Myrtle Gill resided. Police did recover a

bloody twelve inch kitchen knife believed to have been used to cause serious injuries to the couple. Also missing is a bed sheet that could have been used to dispose of their bodies.
The blood stained floors and mattress tells of the unthinkable horror that took place inside the couple’s bedroom but there is nothing to indicate whether or not Crawford and Gill were taken alive from the caye. Based on the ransacked condition of the house it is believed there was a struggle that ended in bloodshed. Because the blood was concentrated in the bedroom area it is not known if the couple were sleeping at the time they were attacked.
On the kitchen table we found pieces of broken dinner ware, plates and an empty cigarette box. Inside a bowl we also found marijuana stems and snuffed out weed joints.
While the scene suggests that

Crawford and Gill may have been entertaining police say it is difficult to determine if the couple had company at the time. Today police tell 7NEWS there are no leads in this case and that they have received no information that makes them believe the couple is still alive.
While information suggests that John Earl Crawford may have been the target police still do not have a motive. We do know that following his release from Hattieville Prison someone shot Crawford. Crawford had served time after being charged with the murder of police officer Euwin Armstrong but was freed because the main witness failed to testify.
Tonight Belize City police continue to appeal to anyone who has information about what happened on this island to please call. Jacqueline Godwin for 7NEWS.
Today police told us that they have no new information. The Crawford family yesterday told 7NEWS that they strongly Believe that their son and brother has been killed. Police have confirmed that an outboard engine was stolen from the island.
