The Chester Williams case has been in the public domain for months and tonight it is closer to a resolution. You may recall that in March, Williams was placed on suspension with half pay. The decision to suspend him came after Williams exploded in a fiery interview on Channel 7, accusing other officers of implicating him in a bogus murder plot, and alleging that the senior command was politically victimizing him by sending him to do a desk job that was beneath his rank. Well, it’s not beneath that rank anymore. In a hearing that ended on Friday, the Security Services Commission found that Williams should be demoted to the rank of Superintendent.

Chairman of the Commission, Rodney Neal confirmed to 7NEWS that Williams was found guilty of three disciplinary charges; those are” threatening an officer, granting an unauthorized interview and not following the proper procedure when dealing with evidence. The officer that he is accused of threatening is Superintendent Edward Broaster, who Williams has alleged is the one behind the plot to implicate him in a murder rap. But that’s another matter completely.

This matter has now concluded and Williams is presently a Superintendent pending re-instatement to active duty. So he is clear to go back to work. But will he? We were unable to reach Commissioner Gerald Westby for comment on what happens next because he is out of officer. Chester Williams was unavailable at all known telephone contacts.

Williams still has a case pending at the Supreme Court seeking constitutional redress for what he maintains was an unlawful suspension in the first place.
