One week after twenty two year old Darrel Grant was charged with the murder of thirty nine year old King’s Park resident Sandra Ruiz and the attempted murder of her eight year old daughter, today his sister was taken over to Magistrate’s Court charged for handling the jewellery that Grant stole from Ruiz’s home. Also charged with the same offence is twenty one year old Ladyville customer service agent Kayla Davis.
The stolen pieces of jewellery valuing a combined $4,000 were found at Fair Brother’s Pawn Shop. And after they got a tip about the pawn shop, where they found the jewellery, it wasn’t difficult to find the two young women. Samantha Grant told investigators that on Monday august eleventh her brother gave her the first three pieces of jewellery that she later pawned.
This morning Samantha Grant and Kayla Davis appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie where they were both charged with handling stolen goods. although it is a minor offense, court prosecutor Sergeant Carol Tucker objected to bail stating that it is a serious matter because the stolen jewellery was the result of the murder of Sandra Ruiz. Sergeant Tucker explained to the court that the police investigation was still ongoing and they fear that grant and Davis would interfere with the witnesses.
Both women had nothing to say in their own defence and with that they were denied bail. Samantha Grant and Kayla Davis are scheduled to reappear in court on September eighteenth.
