On Wednesday, we told you about the plight of some residents of the Belama area who’ve been bedevilled and beleaguered by a string of burglaries. In response, they started up a neighbourhood watch programme and on Wednesday it paid off, big time. Jose Romero, a resident of “Me Amigo” Lane caught a pair of thieves in the act and fired a shot at them with a licensed weapon.
Both were found on a back street in the area by authorities after they had gone into the area following reports of gunshots. Today the two young men were escorted by police to Belize City Magistrate’s Court to hear charges. The young men have been identified as seventeen year old Linton Broaster and eighteen year old Richard Stanford. Today in court, Broaster tried to explain that he was in the area fishing, but he was told that he had to wait until the trial date to defend himself.
Because the crime of attempted burglary is not an indictable offence both Linton Broaster and Robert Wagner were offered bail of two thousand five hundred dollars each plus one surety of the same amount. Bail was granted to the accused on two conditions: first, both of them should not appear before court for any other offense and two, both must stay away from Me Amigo Lane. Linton Broaster and Robert Wagner are scheduled to reappear in Belize City Magistrate Court on November twenty seventh.
