He says he is a car dealer but police say the only thing 30 year old Denfield Vasquez was dealing yesterday was drugs. Police say the 30 year old was traveling with a crocus bag containing 50 pounds of marijuana. Vasquez was busted after he got into a car accident in Cotton Tree between miles 44 and 45 on the Western Highway. Police say Vasquez was trying to elude a checkpoint and he caused a head on collision.

Officers approached the accident scene and after verifying that both drivers were okay, they told Vasquez they saw him throw something into the bushes. They took him to about 7 feet from his car where they found a red crocus bag. In it was marijuana which weighed in at 23.7 kilograms or just over 50 pounds.

He was charged for drug trafficking and arraigned in Belmopan’s Magistrate Court this afternoon. He pleaded not guilty. The police prosecutor objected to bail because of the quantity of drugs. But because Vasquez has a clean criminal record, Magistrate Earl Jones granted him $8,000 bail. But Vasquez was unable to meet it and he was remanded to prison until December 12th.
