Thousands of Belizeans continue to be affected by floods and while it takes more than a happy meal to ease their blues, every little bit does count. And that’s why the staff at the Ministry of Youth and Youth for the Future spent Saturday grilling and then serving 500 plates of barbecue to flood victims in the river valley and in orange Walk. Here’s how it went.

The team from the Ministry of Youth prepared the 500 plates of barbecue on Saturday at Youth for the Future. The 500 plates were loaded in boxes and then with Minister of Youth, Sports, and Culture in the lead they headed to the Belize River Valley.

They drove as far as they could which was to the entrance to Rancho Dolores and thereafter they had to truck it and then jump on a Coast Guard skiff. The food was personally delivered and served by Minister Cardona.

Hon. Marcel Cardona,
“This is some barbecue chicken and beans and barbecue for you guys. I know that you are having some real difficulties right now with these flooding and just bear in mind that lots of people out there are praying for you guys and I wish you all the best. It is just a little symbolic gesture.”

He did similar drop offs in other flood communities which ran way into the night.
