Late this evening Pauline Mclean, the mother of three year old Omar Aguilar visited our studios to explain her side of the story. Mclean who is understandably upset over the tragic loss of her young son said she is a hardworking and devoted single mother to her children.

Jacqueline Godwin,
Have you been able to speak with your 9 year old son?

Pauline Mclean, Mother of Deceased
“A little bit. He said that he get up the morning, I woke him the morning before I left home because my door doesn’t have a lock to lock the door, it is a padlock. So I don’t usually lock them inside, I usually wake him up so he hooks the door from inside so that they could come out. Every morning he usually takes his brother to the babysitter but that Saturday morning I don’t know what happened that they never did go.

What we are getting from the catchy catchy words that he is saying, because he is still in shock, that the baby got up and the baby went to bathroom and laid down back and said he was still sleepy, so he left the baby to go back to sleep. After that he said he went right to the neighbour who lives right side of me, they were inside playing and thing and every minute the lady said he sent him to check on him. She said she asked him where is your mom and he said his mom is at work. She asked where is your little brother and he said he was sleeping. So she said she sent to check on him every minute to see if he woke.

The lady told me that by the time they could holler fire, they went to open the door but they couldn’t get in. But my was telling me he didn’t lock the door, he just pushed in my room door and pulled in the big door because the big door is a bolted lock so it had to lock from outside, he didn’t keys or nothing with him. So he left him because he said he was still sleepy.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
So as far as you know the door was not bolted from outside?

Pauline Mclean,
“No.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
So your son could have left the room?

Pauline Mclean,
“Yes he could have left the room. If he had gotten up he could have left the room and they would have saved my baby.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
Some people are saying why did you decide to leave Omar with your nine year old son who is also a child himself?

Pauline Mclean,
“It was drizzling the Saturday morning. I usually leave for work at six o’clock. I didn’t want to bring them in the drizzling because Omar just got over a cold which was giving his asthma. I couldn’t bring him in the drizzling so that is why I left Glen and I told him to take his brother to the babysitter. It is something he does but I don’t know that Saturday why he didn’t do it.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
Do you know if anything was left on inside the room? What could have possibly started this fire?

Pauline Mclean,
“I don’t have no match, no stove, no lighter in my house because of kids. I protect kids. I don’t have candles, I am afraid of the candle.”

According to Pauline McClean despite reports her son is not mentally disabled but he attends Stella Maris School because he is only a slow learner. The building was the property of Raymond Lashley. According to Lashley it was not insured and there was a total of six tenants who resided in rooms from the lower flat.
