It’s sad that for many Christmas time means crime time, where there are more burglaries, robberies and aggravated assaults as criminals are trying to have their own kind of Christmas bonanza. And while police have increased mobile and foot patrols – crime is a two way street. That’s why today police officers hit the streets with brochures on the dos and don’ts for citizens who want to protect themselves and their homes. The head of Community Policing and the acting Second in Command at Eastern Division – Senior Superintendent Miguel Segura shared some of the tips with us this evening.

Sr. Supt. Miguel Segura, Commander – Community Policing
“To advise the shoppers to try to be more precautious in terms of being more preventative we have issued crime prevention brochures of while shopping, at home, and if they are hosting a party and these are the tips we want the people to abide and by collaboration and cooperation we could see some benefits.

For example when doing shopping do not flash lots of money; if you have your money you need to use it on your front pockets, if you a wallet on the front itself. You need like if you park your vehicle, do not leave articles that are visible – you are sort of inviting them. If you leave your home also advise your neighbours; this is where a neighbourhood watch could come in and also when you’re hosting a party we’re asking people to have designated drivers.

Security starts with your own personal security so looking at this time crime prevention tips they need to be aware of where they are walking, where they are parking, how they are leaving their homes, working along with neighbourhoods and that is the advice they need to get.”

The brochures are available widely.
