He is the deliveryman at Pepper’s Pizza but tonight 27 year old Shaun Bennett is in jail for allegedly burglarizing Pepper’s. Last night the deliveryman was found hiding inside the storeroom after a failed burglary attempt.
Police say that around 11:55 last night, Bennett broke into Pepper’s on Saint Thomas Street by cutting through the aluminium louvers on the northside of the building. Alert neighbours called the owners and they called police. Police responded and inside they found the lock on the office door damaged but nothing was stolen. But strangely – the surveillance cameras were all turned up to the ceiling. But even more interesting is that when they reviewed the cameras –it showed a man entering but there was no indication that he had left. A search of the building led to the storeroom where Shaun Bennett was found hiding.
He was arrested and today marched to court where he was arraigned on a single charge of burglary. He pled not guilty and while the police prosecutor did not object to bail – Magistrate Aretha Ford denied him bail anyway. This was despite his plea for mercy because his girlfriend just gave birth three days ago. He was remanded until March 3rd.
