Five days after sixty two year old Libertad Village resident in the Corozal District was stabbed to death, the police in that northern district have not made any arrests but sources tell 7News that they have been making some significant progress in the investigation. From what we understand the vicious killing of the taxi man was not as a result of robbery but of another homicide that occurred across our borders in Guatemala.
From what w have been able to gather from reports we have been receiving the victim Miguel Angel Aldana is originally from Melchor de Mencos but had moved initially to Benque Viejo Town where he became a well known taxi driver and member of the Taxi Association. Nine months ago he reportedly relocated and settled in the Libertad Village. And that’s where we are told police have been investigating a report that the sixty two year old taxi man was involved in someway or the other in a homicide that took place in Guatemala.
In fact sources tell us that while it is not suspected that Miguel Aldana murdered anyone the allegations are that he was thought to have assisted in transporting the killer. Since then he was being sought not by police but by the very same persons believed to have tracked him down and killed him. Unconfirmed reports are that one week before Miguel Aldana was murdered a group of men believed to be from Guatemala were in Belize and reportedly asking questions and trying to locate the taxi man.
The last time Miguel Angel Aldana was seen alive was around seven last Thursday morning and at six that evening he was found next to his car lying face down with multiple stab wounds to the back and head.
