Was it a simple argument over blocks and zinc that led to the decapitation of twenty seven year old Juan Carlos Castillo Venezuela? That is what San Ignacio Police investigations have revealed and authorities say it was this man Victor Vargas who chopped off the victim’ s head with what they believe to be a machete. After killing Juan, Victor then allegedly set the body on fire.

The burned remains were found on the morning of Tuesday May nineteenth on an isolated farm where Juan Carlos Castillo Venezuela had gone on Monday evening to clear the land for the property owner. What makes this case troubling is not only the way the young man of Buena Vista Village was murdered but the victim and killer were good friends and residents of the same community.

Both however had drug problems and that is what may have contributed to an argument that erupted between the two young men which led to the murder. Reports are that one week before the homicide Victor Vargas confronted Juan Carlos Castillo Venezuela in the village and accused him of stealing blocks and zinc from various locations that both men allegedly frequented in support of their drug habit.

But while Cayo Police have arrested and charged the man they say killed the Buena Vista resident they have been unable to solve the murder of Spanish Lookout resident forty two year old Peter Guenther. Guenther was shot from close range on the night of Saturday May sixteenth. The killer or killers then set the Guenther’s home on fire but neighbours alerted by the flames ran to the scene.

Police investigations reveal that nothing was stolen and they even found the victim’s money still inside his pants pocket. People in the community strongly believe that the killing was either a set up or that the victim knew his killer. Initially San Ignacio Police detained and questioned the victim’s wife and son but both were later released. Today authorities do not have any suspects or a motive.
