Darren Banks - the notorious street figure appeared in Magistrate’s Court today with his trademark dreadlocks cut off and for good measure, his eye brows were also shaved. The 31 year old – who had reportedly had a nervous breakdown in prison - was charged today in court with wounding for allegedly stabbing his common-law wife in the back of her head.
22 year old Nicolette Forman says that on Friday afternoon at 3:20 she was with banks at their home on Oleandar Street when he started to mumble. Foreman says she ignored him and that infuriated banks who then took a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the back of her head. She was taken to the KHMH where her injuries were classified as wounding.
Today in court, Banks pleaded not guilty and the prosecution objected to bail because he lived with Forman and her children. Magistrate Aretha Ford reserved a decision pending a report from a psychiatrist. His mother Elida Bonnell told Magistrate Aretha Ford that her son has a mental condition and that she had already made an arrangement with Kolbe Foundation to place banks in a secure facility.
The once fearsome Banks has been in a free fall since he was jailed earlier this year for attempted murder. Last week he shaved off his dreadlocks and his eyebrows. His case for the previous charge of attempted murder has been adjourned to Thursday September 3rd.
The last time he was in court, Banks told the Magistrate he was seeing snakes all over the floor.
