A Cayo supermarket was the target of a hold-up yesterday. Two armed men wearing masks stormed into Anthony’s Supermarket in Santa Elena at 8:45 last night. One of them carried a handgun while the other man held onto a pump action shot gun. Security camera footage shows that they spent 40 seconds robbing the business of an undisclosed amount of cash and electronic equipment. They got off with $3,760 in cash and items including a laptop.

According to the Cayo Star newspaper when the men were driving off – the owner of the store managed to fire two shots but he didn’t hit them. Police say their quick response led to the detention of one man who is a suspect. He is Bernard Anderson and his fmaily says that has been viciously brutalized. They add that it couldn’t have been him because he was at home sick in bed when the crime occurred.

His family says police took him to a location off the Benque Road where they brutalized him. He remains in police custody at this time.
