Today American businessman Christopher Hysinger pled guilty to causing death by careless conduct. He was originally charged with manslaughter by negligence for the death of 21 year old Kenroy “Bobby” Peyrefitte - a mechanic from Camalote.

On April 20th of 2008, Hysinger was behind the wheels of his Toyota Prado when he crashed head on into a Toyota Corolla travelling in the opposite direction between miles 27 and 28 on the Western Highway. Peyrefitte was in the front passenger seat of that Corolla and died instantly from serious head injuries. Hysinger was overtaking a bus when he collided into the oncoming vehicle.

Initially, he pleaded not guilty. His attorney Dean Lindo made a no case submission after Crown Counsel Trienna Young rested her case and when that didn’t work, he chose to plead down to the lesser charge of causing death by careless conduct.

Key in the case against him was a statement from a police corporal on the scene who claims that Hysinger admitted that he was in the wrong. Hysinger’s attorney sought to have the statement excluded. When that was unsuccessful, Hysinger changed his plea. Because a jury was already empanelled, they today delivered a guilty verdict. Justice Adolph Lucas will sentence Christopher Hysinger tomorrow morning.
