There was a vicious attack upon an elderly couple in Hattieville Village. The sixty year old woman and her husband who is significantly older were attacked inside their home. According to the couple around two on Monday morning they were awakened by a sound and light flashing in the bathroom and upon making a check they were confronted by a man dressed in dark clothing and a stocking over his face who pointed a firearm at them. The man then tied up the couple in their bedroom and stole an assortment of electrical household items, a stun gun and a Timex watch.
The home invader then raped the sixty year old housewife. He then escaped by jumping into a red 1999 Chevy Blazer vehicle with foreign license plate number LP AYCW437. According to police they know who the burglar and rapist is and they have launched an intensive manhunt for him. And as police search for that suspect, further west in the grater Belmopan area, a family of three was attacked and their 21 year daughter was sexually molested.
The aggravated burglary and assault occurred on Saturday. A twenty eight year old businessman told police that he had arrived home with his wife and stepdaughter and when they pulled up in their vehicle they were held up by three armed dark complexioned men. According to the father the men wore masks and they ordered his stepson who was inside the house to open the door. The family and their assailants then entered and pistol whipped the father.
The men then ordered the family to lie on the floor and further told the 21 year old to strip and two of them sexually assaulted her. The men got away with an assortment of jewellery and cell phones totalling two thousand, five hundred and sixty four dollars. Police have not detained anyone and their investigation continues.
And while that’s what the police are reporting, a release from government reports that there were two rapes on San Pedro over the weekend. The release says that cabinet discussed the possibility of strengthening the law, including increasing the minimum sentence for rape and reviewing parole regulations. The Attorney General’s Ministry will follow up.
