36 year old taxi driver Harold Mahler was today charged with burglary for breaking into the home of his girlfriend’s mom early Tuesday morning. But Mahler says he is the victim since he was beaten by the police. His ordeal began around 1 am on Tuesday when he went looking for his common-law wife Ursula Smith at her mother’s home in Taylor’s Alley.

Ursula’s mother Ilene Smith told police the sound of rattling louvers woke her. She says she investigated and found Mahler inside her kitchen with a rake in his hand. She then alleges that he went on a tirade, destroying $700 worth of kitchen utensils. During all this he was stabbed in his left cheek by an unidentified man in Taylor’s Alley. Sometime after that he was taken into police custody.

At his arraignment today, Harold Mahler’s mom Yolanda Montejo told the Magistrate that her son was beaten by police. She says police told her that they beat her son because he was giving trouble. That didn’t mean he got a go home fee pass. In court, he pleaded not guilty to the burglary charge and was released on bail of $4,000. Mahler is due back in court on January 27th of 2010.
