Another case fell through in the Supreme Court today, and again it’s caused by an absent witness. Two brothers, Sigmund Trapp Jr. and Trevor Trapp charged with use of deadly means of harm with intent to commit dangerous harm were acquitted of the charge today. That’s because the chief witness and victim, Ronin Castellanos was not available to testify because he is in the United States.
Crown Counsel Trienna Young tried to get his statement admitted as evidence but presiding Justice Michelle Arana did not accept it. So, after the prosecution closed its case having called five witnesses, Justice Arana directed the jury of 9 to find the Trapp brothers not guilty.
The shooting happened in May of 2008 when Castellanos was on Rivero Street – which is the Trapp neighbourhood – and he was shot in the leg.
