On January 18th, 27 year old Salvador Martinez was fatally stabbed at a high school football game at the MCC Grounds. Tonight, police say the man who issued the fatal stab is 18 year old Leon Gomez. He was today charged with murder for killing Martinez and with the wounding of Jevon Aranda, a high school student, who was injured in the scuffle.
No plea was taken for the murder charge because it is indictable but Gomez pled guilty to the charge of wounding. Magistrate Aretha Ford reserved sentencing for the wounding charge until March 18th which is the adjournment date for the murder charge.
Martinez was at the MCC Grounds at a football game when one of the friends he was with got into a fistfight. He intervened and that is when Martinez was stabbed in his underarm, chest, stomach, leg, and crotch. Bleeding badly, he was carted out of the MCC on a bicycle handle until his friends managed to stop a passing vehicle three blocks away. He died while undergoing surgery at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
