A 3 year old child was killed in a terrible traffic accident yesterday in Corozal Town. It involved a Venus Bus. The driver 37 year old Ernesto Montalvo says that around 3:30 he was driving west from 7th Avenue to 5th Avenue when he observed to the right of him a Hispanic female riding a child on the bar of a bicycle in the same direction. The child was three year old Gabriela Eulalia Osorio. Montalvo says he switched to the left lane and that is when he heard screams and applied brakes. He exited the bus and found 3 year old Gabriela on the street with massive head injuries. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Corozal Town Hospital.
A post mortem conducted today certified that she died from pressure to the head. Police however say there is no evidence to indicate where the pressure came from. They do know however that she wasn’t crushed by the bus.
Corozal Police say the accident is under investigation and as such the bus driver Ernesto Montalvo has not been charged. They say it is possible that whoever was riding little Gabriela on the bar of the bike caused the accident when she made contact with the side of the bus.
