In the current climate of daylight armed robberies, the word “daring” seems to have lost its impact so all we can say about the next one is that it really passes the mark. This afternoon armed men targeted a major institution: the Social Security Board Office in Belize City.
Sometime after 4 pm, two men armed with guns walked into the office on Princess Margaret Drive and placed a gun to the head of one of the supervisors. They demanded money and proceeded to raid the cash drawer. Reports are that during the ordeal – frightened employees hid under desks. No one was hurt and after grabbing all the cash they could -the men then allegedly fled through a backdoor which leads from the kitchen to the rear of the building.
The men were reportedly seen in the Social Security Board’s Office this morning. That may have provided them with some insight as we are told they managed to dodge the view of most of the security cameras.
There has been no confirmation on how much cash was stolen but it could be substantial because today is “due date.” That means it is the day when employers pay Social Security.
