And while the police crime ring has supposedly been disbanded – that doesn’t mean violent armed assaults are at an end – far from it, as two cases have been reported, one in Belmopan and the other in Independence village.
Yesterday night at 8:00, security guards 24 year old Francisco Pivaral and 45 year old Edilberto Menendez – a resident of Belmopan were on duty inside the Caribbean Investors Limited compound on George Price Boulevard, when they were held up by two armed men. Edilberto then ran in the direction of the Western Highway and one of the assailants fired several shots at him but missed. They then proceeded to rob Piveral of his personal belongings. Police investigations continue.
And just before midnight in Independence Village there was a robbery at Al J’s bar on Fyffes Street when two men stormed in – one carrying a knife, the other a gun. One of the men put the knife to 20 year old bartender Delia Martinez’s throat and demanded the key for the cash draw. While he helped himself, two of the patrons attacked the man with the gun – causing a shot to be fired. No one was hurt and the robbers raced out taking an undisclosed amount of cash and leaving behind their gun and knife. Police investigation continues.
