Twenty-three-year-old Elisa Chan who stabbed 25-year-old Khadija Castillo because of a dispute over a man was acquitted of a charge of attempted murder today in the court of Justice Herbert Lord. Justice Lord directed jury of five women and four men to return a formal verdict of Not Guilty, after Castillo the first witness for the prosecution took the witness stand and testified that she does not want any court action.

Castillo said everybody makes a mistake and she is the forgiving kind.

Chan was represented by Attorney Simeon Sampson while Crown Counsel Christelle Wilson represented the prosecution.

The incident occurred around 10:30PM on September 2nd 2008 on Jaguar Avenue near to Fabers Road Extension. Castillo at the time was working as a floor supervisor at the Smokey Mermaid Restaurant while Chan worked as a waitress at Celebrity Restaurant. Castillo reported to the Police that she left work, hired the taxi to take her home and the taxi dropped her off at the corner of Fabers Road Extension and Lionel Tillett Street.

Castillo said she was walking on Jaguar Avenue and was about two houses from her home when Chan jumped out of a vehicle and attacked her with a sharp object. She said Chan stabbed her under her right armpit and on the left side of her abdomen and she fell to the ground. She told Police that while she was on the ground, Chan stabbed her several more times. Then Chan got into the vehicle and it sped away. Castillo said she crawled to her house and her common-law husband took her to the hospital.
