A high speed police chase in the city at around 2:00 this afternoon ended in a collision - and it wasn't with the vehicle police were chasing. ASP Alford Grinage was driving an unmarked Toyota Hilux in hot pursuit turning from Partridge unto Vernon Street when he collided with a Land Rover Discovery belonging to PUP Deputy Leader Francis Fonseca. Fonseca was not driving at the time, but his driver George Domingo was; he was not seriously hurt. But The Discovery was badly damaged and so was the unmarked Hilux which is reportedly only 3 days old. It was removed by the time we got there - leaving only the crushed windshield glass and the emblem on the ground. The airbag on the Hilux was deployed and ASP Grinage was reportedly knocked unconscious by the impact or the fumes and was taken to the KHMH where he has regained consciousness and is stable. The red car with Corozal plates that he was chasing was reportedly intercepted with cash and drugs.
This isn't the first time a crash has landed Grinage in the hospital; our records show that in 2004, Grinage then a Sergeant crashed on the western highway in a police pickup and had to be hospitalized.
