A resident of Belama is claiming that someone set her 1982 Chevy 1 ton truck on fire. It happened around 1:30 this morning in front of her home in Belama. According to her - she was awakened by the sound of her dogs barking.

She wished to appear off camera - but told 7 News why she believed it was set on fire.

Voice of truck Owner
"In my sleep I heard the dogs making a lot of noise. I open the window. When I did that I see the dogs rush the person. I did not see who it was but when I look I see the big flame of fire. And so I woke up all my children to try to take out the fire. Everybody start to dip water from the drain to throw on the truck."

"Tell me what is the use of the truck?"

Voice of truck Owner
"Well I use it for transporting household items or anything that would call us to transport. I don't pick up garbage off the street, I just pick up things that people would call us to do."

Monica Bodden
"The City Council has a problem with you doing that?"

Voice of truck Owner
"Yes, they want me to stop."

According to the victim, she has been at odds with the City Council for transporting people's garbage. She said she had spoken with Deputy Major Phillip Willoughby about 3 months ago and was told she needs to stop using her truck to transport garbage - since the council has already assigned a contract to a single sanitation company.

Our reports say she is also at odds with the managers at dumpsite on the Boom Hattieivlle road.
