Nineteen year old Glenford Diego who was convicted three days ago for the attempted murder of 33 year old Mark Sacassa was sentenced to 8 years today by Justice Adolph Lucas. Justice Adolph Lucas ruled that the sentence should take effect from Monday, July 26th, when the trial began.
Diego is serving a sentence of 18 months for aggravated assault. Before he decided on the sentence, Justice Lucas heard a plea for mitigation from Diego's mother, Rita Lopez who resides in Siene Beigt. She asked Justice Lucas to be lenient with the sentence so that Diego can come out of prison and take care of his baby.
Lucas said he took into consideration the fact that Diego is only 19 and he was a juvenile when he committed the offence. Sacassa who resides on Rivero Street extension, was shot by Diego, his relative, around 5:40 P.M. on July 15th of 2007. Sacassa had just entered his yard when Diego shot him in his elbow and thigh. Diego was not represented by an attorney. Senior Crown Counsel Yohhanseh Cave represented the prosecution.
