Laverne "Antichrist" Longsworth was charged for murder today. The charge comes five months after she allegedly set her common law husband, 32 year old David White on fire. He was badly burned, but survived and she was charged with attempted murder.
White succumbed to his injuries in early August - but her charges was not upgraded. Though White's family publicly demanded that murder charges be brought, the decision on whether to bring murder charges was complicated by the fact that she claimed a long history of abuse.
Well, after months of deliberation by the DPP's office, the decision was made a few weeks ago to proceed with murder charges - based to some extent at least on television interviews Longsworth gave to 7news admitting that she set White on fire. We know this because reporters in this newsroom have been asked to provide statements about those interviews. So today in court, the charge of attempted murder against the 36 year old Laverne Longsworth was upgraded to murder.
The mother of three - who had been on bail since July - was remanded into custody until December 30.
