Twenty-one year old Enrique Alvarez, a construction worker of Jane Usher Boulevard who stole a bicycle valued at seventy five dollars, was fined five thousand dollars today in the #8 Magistrate's Court after he pleaded guilty to robbery.

Magistrate Emmerson Banner, who imposed the fine, ordered Alvarez to pay one thousand dollars forthwith. Alvarez was unable to pay so he was taken to prison to begin serving five years.

The robbery occurred around 12:45p.m on Saturday, January 15.

The complainant, Oscar Portillo, reported to the police that he riding his bicycle on Cemetery Road and when he reached near Pound Yard Bridge, Alvarez knocked him off his bicycle and he fell to the ground.

Portillo said Alvarez rode away on his bicycle and he pursued him. Portillo, with the help of passers-by managed to subdue Alvarez and retrieve his bicycle.

A police mobile that was in the area took Alvarez into custody.
