There was a murder in the city early this morning - but it wasn't gang violence or an old beef.

The victim was a working man, a taxi-man, actually, who was on his way to his work spot at the Tourism Village on a cruise ship day.

But Errol Ferguson never made it there. And that's because a pair of brothers he'd had an argument with the night before - over his car battery that had been stolen - went after him with multiple weapons.

Here's what we saw at the crime scene:

Jules Vasquez Reporting:

The CB Hyde Government Complex at the end of Mahogany Street was cordoned off with crime scene tape this morning and school children heading to classes had to skirt around the scene as police looked for clues inside Errol Ferguson's taxi.

This morning at 7:15, the 33 year old Ferguson was standing at a nearby Chinese store when a pair of brothers attacked him, reportedly with a machete and a knife.

He ran to his car, and collapsed there. He was rushed to the KHM and died shortly after. His family says the dispute was over - of all things - a car battery.

Shakira "Kizzy" Petillo, Common Law Wife of Deceased

"They killed him for his battery, for his own battery. He was a person, when he knows something is his, he is going for his thing. It doesn't matter what is, especially, if he - I don't know. That's just him."

His common law wife Kizzy Petillo was with his three children today at the family home in Hattieville - and as their grandmother wailed in the background, she says they have taken away a provider - for his own property.

Shakira Petillo
"They planned to do this to him; It's not like he just did it today and and they came right back. No, they had the whole night to sleep on it. Come on mein. They already saw that they stabbed him, they already hurt him. He was getting into the vehicle and they went all the way in there and finished him. I just want them to know that they took away somebody that had 3 children. And you know happened? Like the good Lord say, "Vengeance is mine." I will leave everything up to him and he will do his part. That's all I could say because he is already gone."

The brothers are in police custody. As noted in the story, they were known to the victim and lived on the same Street.

Apparently, he had accused them of stealing his car battery last night - they didn't take kindly to it - and attacked him this morning. During the fracas, we understand that a friend of Ferguson came to his defense and wounded one of the attackers. That, though, is unconfirmed.
