He was accused of stabbing a woman 14 times and then turning the knife on her children, but a jury was not convinced today that 27 year old Honduran National Alexis Rojas was guilty of 1 count of attempted murder and 2 counts of wounding.
The jury of 8 women and 1 man deliberated for about 3 hours today before it voted 8 to 1 against attempted murder and it was unanimous for the other counts.
Rojas was charged with the attempted murder of Luisa Bardalez and causing wound to her 2 children, their ages 15 and 16, on September 12, 2009.
Luisa was stabbed about 14 times with a knife and her children were each stabbed once.
The incident occurred in the St. Martin De Pores Area. According to the evidence it was a dispute over an alleged love affair and Rojas said Luisa struck him on his head with a 2 by 4 and after that he could not recall what happened but said that if he did anything it was in self-defense. Rojas was not represented by an attorney. Crown Counsel Talia Meighan Francis represented the prosecution.
