Remanded For Fondling Child

A man accused of fondling and giving a love bite to a 9 year old is in jail tonight. 60 year old taxi driver Godfrey Mortis was charged with aggravated assault when he appeared in the number one Magistrate's Court.

He pleaded not guilty and the prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the crime has become prevalent, that Mortis might interfere with the complainant and that Mortis should be denied bail for his own safety. Mortis did not give a good reason why he should be granted bail and so the Chief Magistrate upheld the objection and remanded him into custody until June 28.

The girl reported to police that on the night of Sunday June 5th, she was at the 60 year-old's house when he had inappropriate contact with her.
