The notorious Darren Banks. He is known to have a long criminal record with police - and was allegedly going crazy in jail in November of 2008 - after he told the judge he saw snakes slithering on the courtroom floor. But that wasn't enough to keep him from behind bars since he is tonight locked up and allegedly beaten up. His mother told 7news today that her 32 year old son was beaten badly on Monday at the Hattieville prison and she hasn't since been able to speak with him to find out what had happen.

"I came here to talk about my son Daren Banks because on Monday my other son went out and when he came back he told me that my son Darren Banks - three officers beat him at the prison and he was at the hospital. He had a burst head and a bruise by the eye. Up to now I didn't see him. I went to find out at the prison and I could see him."

"What did they say to you?"
Elida Bonnell, Mother Darren Banks "The officer told me that my son slips down and one of the inmates took a padlock and knock him in his head. I told them that I don't believe that. so he and I had a talking about it and he send me up to Ms. Taheda. Ms. Taheda told me that they hit him with a rock."

"Another inmate she says hit him."

"What is your biggest concern at this point?"
Elida Bonnell, Mother Darren Banks
"Well I want to know about my son. I want to see him. I want to know if any doctor is attending to him because he is sick. They feel like he is pretending that he has a nerve problem but he is not pretending because I as his mother know him. I want to know what will happen to him and I want to know how he looks and how he is feeling."

"You think that instead of being lock up behind bars he needs to get help for his condition?"

"Yes I believe he has to get help to his condition because if he is in there and they provoke him by doing things out of the way he will get mad and that is the time that they hit him and now they have him in a cell lock up because they say he does not belong with the other inmate because he give problems. But he gives problems because he is sick, he is sick and they are not paying him any mind. This will only makes things worst for him."

"The prison told you that he is getting psychiatric attention?"

"Well yes they mention that he is getting medication and I don't know if they were giving him first but right now I understand that they are giving him. So I don't know what will happen. I just want to know what they intend to do with him."
The family says Banks is suffering from a psychiatric condition and needs treatment.
