Earlier this week we told you about the traffic accident that killed one man and left another injured. Well today the man who was driving the minivan which caused the accident was taken to court and arraigned on multiple charges.
36 year old Jose Ortiz was charged with manslaughter by negligence and 7 other offences when he appeared in the #7 Magistrate's Court.
The other offences are causing death by careless conduct, driving without due care and attention, negligent grievous harm, negligent wounding and three counts of negligent harm. No plea was taken because the offences are indictable. Ortiz was released on bail of five thousand dollars and his case was adjourned until August third.
Ortiz crashed into a pickup with passengers in the back. Lenard Gillett received head injuries and died while Mark Banner, Mabel Shepherd, Amini Lewis and Kenisha Carter were also injured.
