A jury of five women and four men deliberated for almost four hours today in the court of Justice Adolph Lucas before it found 28 year old Kareem Williams not guilty of rape and robbery of a 42 year old woman in October of 2009. The jury's verdict was unanimous.

But although Williams was acquitted, he is not free because police say he is being investigated for a robbery. The victim in the rape told police that she was walking on Chancellor street on the evening of October 7, 2009 when the assailant rode up to her on a bicycle and put a gun to her head. She said the gunman raped and then stole her cellphone and jewelry.

Williams - who was not represented by an attorney - testified in his own defence and said that at the time of the incident, he was drinking with friends on Supal street. He called two witnesses, Leon Thompson and Jason Soup Williams who corroborated his story. v Senior Crown Counsel Yohhanhseh Cave represented the prosecution….
