A charge of possession of prohibited material against 27 year old UB Lecturer Leon Leslie was dismissed today in the Magistrate's Court. Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser dismissed the charge when the arresting officer, Detective Constable Ian Galvez, failed to appear in court to testify after the matter was set for final.
The incident occurred around 10:50p.m on January 16, 2011. The Gang Suppression Unit was on patrol on Periwinkle Street when they saw a gold Pathfinder parked on the street.
The police reported that when they searched the trunk of the car they found a camouflage bullet proof vest. The police investigation into the discovery revealed that Leslie was the owner of the Pathfinder. Leslie was represented by attorney Ellis Arnold. Since that arrest, the law was amended in the constitution to allow citizens to possess registered bulletproof vests.
