Kareem Bowen, known as Jimbo is in stable condition at the KHMH after being shot yesterday afternoon.

As we reported, he was standing in front of his family home on Sibun street when he was shot from across the canal.

The family says it was triggered by police who released someone from a rival gang into their neighborhood the night before.

Sgt. Fitroy Yearwood - Police Press Officer
"He was standing in front of his residence, yesterday evening - sometime around 3:45 p.m. - where a lone gunman came up on Sittee Street, and opened fire on him. He was hit in the abdomen and somewhere in the buttocks area. He is listed in stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital."

"Any suspects?"

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood

"Well, we are looking for someone known to the police in connection with this shooting."

Isani Cayetano - Channel 5 News
"It is said that this shooting may have been gang-related. Can you speak to that?"

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood
"Well, if we can recall, a sibling of his was recently murdered, and we are not sure whether it is gang-related or if someone is targeting them, but that's what we are trying to establish - the motive behind this shooting. And hopefully, if we know why this one took place, we able to answer that. We would be in a better position to comment on that."

Tonight, Police say they are very concerned about that allegation of misconduct and have already initiated an internal investigation into the matter.

Sgt Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Press Officer
"I must say that the Minister of Police - Commissioner of Police - will not tolerate any sort of illegal, or criminal behavior displayed by any member. If we at this department - because have internal investigation going on into this allegation. I must say that they condemn that kind of behavior. We at the Police Department do not train our officers to do any of excitement to retaliation, or excitement between rivalry groups. If that is the case, whosoever did that, will be dealt with criminally."

Isani Cayetano - Channel 5 News
"Sergeant Yearwood, that practice is common-place."

Sgt. Fitzroy Yearwood
"You might think that it is common-place, but it was not reported to the proper place, if it had occurred previously. What I am saying now, is that this one is reported to us, and it is being looked at seriously. It is being investigated; I can tell you this because I was sitting with Head of Internal Affairs, and we will leave no stone unturned."
