There was a shooting in the city a little after noon today. It happened in front of Payless Shopping Center on Complex Street which is in the Lake Independence area.
23 year old Robert Batty was standing in front of the shop when a gunman rode up and fired several shots at him - hitting him in the right leg, right calve and bottom of his right foot.
Today his family told 7news that Batty had just left his house and was on his way to his mother's when he decided to stop at the neighborhood Chinese store to make a purchase.

"Monica I don't have a lot of information, what i was told is that he was on his way from his home in the complex area in Lake I to his mom's house when on his way he stopped off at one of the Chinese grocery store and that was when everything happened. There were several other people at the Chinese store and then shots rang out and I understand that he was shot in the leg. What I was told is that there were three bullet wounds to the same leg - two of the bullets entered and exited and one of them is still lodged in the leg
so it will require a minor surgery. I believe he will be admitted in order for that surgery to proceed. Since he received the gunshots he will have to be admitted as much as I understand. "
Monica you all know that the entire crime situation right now nobody is immune to it. My nephew is a hard working fisherman, as a matter of fact he just came back into the city on Friday I think from the cayes and he was preparing to go back, that is what he does he is a fisherman he go out to the cayes and work he goes on extended trips. They have a camp and they go fishing and diving and so that's how he earns. He has been doing that for many years. "
Robert Batty is listed in a stable condition at the KHMH. So far police have not identified a motive for the incident. The Lake Independence area has witnessed a number of shootings and murders since the end of June….
