After spending three weeks in jail, 27 year old Businessman Patrick Menzies, who was remanded to prison on two counts of Attempted Murder against a police officer, was offered a bail of fifteen thousand dollars today by Justice Troadio Gonzalez.
Menzies was offered bail on the condition that he surrenders all his travel documents and that he reports to the clerk of court every Wednesday and Friday of the week.
The incident occurred on June 5th on Newtown Barracks near to Princess Hotel and Casino. But Menzies was not charged until August 2nd.
According to the allegation, Menzies who was driving a Geo Prism car attempted to Murder police constable Delwin Casimiro and Natasha James by trying to run them over.
Besides Attempted Murder, Menzies was charged with two counts of Use of Deadly Means of Harm, two counts of wounding and two counts of Harm.
The incident with the car was preceded by an incident in which Menzies friend was beaten by members of the police's Gang Suppression Unit GSU.
After the alleged incident with the car, the front and back windshield of the car were shattered by bullets.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, represented by Crown Counsel Trienia Young, had objected to bail for Menzies on the ground that he deliberately tried to kill Casimiro.
But Menzies attorney Dickie Bradley presented signed affidavits from neighbors of Lino who said they saw the police beating Lino and Menzies at Lino's Yard at 6622 Police Street.
