On Friday in Corozal town, a student narrowly escaped serious harm when two armed intruders invaded her home sometime around 8:30 P.M. Police report that Michelle Vellos was at home along with her uncle, Elloy Yam and mother Edith Vellos, when she saw two men with their faces covered with rags and armed with knives.
One of them approached her and placed a knife to her chest, and then attempted to force her into a room.
Vellos resisted, and a struggle ensued, causing her to sustain a scratch on her chest and a swelling to her right hand. The other assailant, meanwhile, snatched a Toshiba laptop valued at One Thousand Five hundred dollars. Both assailants then escaped into the nearby bushes. Police were able to recover the laptop, and have since detained Marvin Peck and Antonio Palma, both of Corozal Town.
And out west in Belmopan, a man who had just gotten home at around 9:30 Friday night, received a violent homecoming! German Lopez, a Biologist, told Police he was attacked by two dark complexion males, one with a black handkerchief tied around his face, and armed with a black handgun.
He was pistol whipped to the left side of his face and back, then forced to lie face down on the floor of his house. Lopez says he was searched and robbed of a black IPhone, his wallet and the key for his 2008 Saturn SUV. One of the assailants then fired a shot close to him and ordered him to remain on the floor, while they made good their escape. Police say they have since recovered the vehicle, but no one has yet been detained.
