59 year old Corozal Schoolteacher Javier Castillo was brutally killed in October of 2009. The former town councilor was found dead in his home last Saturday morning. He was partially nude, had been stabbed twice in his midsection and had a wire tied around his neck.

The man accused of the crime was 28 year old Hilberto Hernandez - a resident of San Narciso. Yesterday, in the Corozal session of the Supreme Court, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. He did so when a trial within a trial was being held to adjudge the caution statement that Hernandez gave to police. That's when he decided to change his plea to guilty of manslaughter.

Trial judge Dennis Hanomansingh has adjourned sentencing until Monday, November 14.
