One person who has been formally charged with attempted murder is 20 year-old Janine Kelly, a student of Wesley Junior College. She appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer, and she was arraigned for grievous harm, and use of deadly means of harm in addition to attempted murder.

According to police, an incident occurred last week Thursday on Pitter's Street at around 8:30 p.m. Kelly allegedly got into an argument with 24-year-old Rosemarie Reyes, a school warden. The altercation escalated into a physical confrontation where Kelly allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Reyes several times on her hands and legs.

In court, Kelly was unrepresented and no plea was taken as the Senior Magistrate, Sharon Frazer, explained that the charges are indictable offenses that will be tried at the Supreme Court at a later date. Due to the nature of the offenses, Frazer could not grant Kelly bail, and she was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. Senior Magistrate Frazer did explain to her that it is her right to apply at the Supreme Court for bail. She will be able to do so within the next 14 days with the assistance of any attorney.

In her defense, Kelly told the court that there has been an ongoing feud between her and the victim, and that she has reported the matter to the police before.

She is expected to return to court on March 2.
