Since the gang truce of September 2011, gun related violence has definitely been on a downswing in the city.

But there are still terrible acts of ruthless murder - and scary near misses.

One of those misses happened last night around 11:00 when Lionel Myles was shot in the chin.

Monica Bodden Reporting

It was in his backyard on 48 Amara Avenue - where 48 year old Lionel Myles was shot in his chin.

He was sitting on this old refrigerator - playing dominoes with two of his friends - around 11 last night - when two men ran down this alley way leading to his yard and one of the men fired a shot at the trio.

"Three of us were playing dominoes at about 11, and 2 guys just ran through the alley and just shoot at us. I ran to the back, and it took me about a minute to come back, and I just walked around to the corner of Amara and King Street, and a guy just put me in the taxi, and I just went to the hospital."

Myles was shot in his chin. Luckily for the 48 year old man, the bullet only grazed him.

"The doctor told me that he just grazed me. The skin was hanging, but they stitched it up right away."

Myles says he didn't see the gunmen's faces because the area they were playing dominoes was poorly lit.

Lionel Myles-Shooting Victim
"They came and there was no light. In the night time, we get light from that building over there, and that's the way how we can see. We don't know anybody."

Monica Bodden
"And do you know why they would want to come here and shoot you guys? You guys are elderly men just hanging out."

Lionel Myles
"Yes, we were just having fun, playing our dominoes every night, just like you see right here."

Monica Bodden
"Do you consider yourself to be lucky?"

Lionel Myles
"Yes, I'm definitely lucky."

And for Myles, he isn't worried a bit if those gunmen will come around again. He told us, he hasn't done anything to anyone and last night, he believes the two men were simply trigger-happy.

Monica Bodden
"Are you scared? Are you wondering why they even came into your yard to do this?"

Lionel Myles-Shooting Victim
"No, I'm not scared because I don't have any problem with no one. I am not scared. They were just probably trigger-happy."

Processing the scene police found one expended 16 Gauge cartridge. No one has been arrested.
