Last night, we reported the story of 22 year-old Jermaine Eligio who was born with a heart condition. He was hospitalized at the KHMH, and his family had publicized that they needed financial assistance to pay for his surgery which couldn't be performed here in Belize.
But before he could get help, his family visited our studios today to inform us that he unfortunately passed away at 10:30 this morning.
According to his family, the doctors attempted to give him a blood transfusion which he needed because his blood volume was dangerously low. During that process, a complication arose where a weakened valve stopped allowing blood to be circulated, and this caused him to go into physical distress, which caused his heart to stop beating altogether.
His family told us that since the story was aired last night, members of the public have been providing assistance. They are asking for anyone who wants to help to continue to do so, because the funeral expenses are now pending, and they don't have money to pay.
