There was a very serious accident on the Philip Goldson Highway this morning where a fruit delivery truck was completely smashed by a head on impact. And though the truck ended up looking like a crushed sardine pan, the 2 occupants of that vehicle survived.

Police say that just before 4:00 this morning, they responded to a traffic accident at mile 8 on the highway. That's when they found this grey and red Toyota pickup truck, which was carrying vegetables and watermelons. On the right side of the highway, they found this Ford Everest SUV, with damages to the driver's side.

Their investigation reveals that Orange Walk resident Richardo Jacobo was driving the pickup, and he was heading to Belize City, along with his passenger, 19 year-old Luis Jacob, a farmer and vendor who's also from Orange Walk.

At the curve after the Manatee Lookout pedestrian crossing, the truck had a massive head-on collision with the Ford SUV, which was being driven by 36-year-old Con Murphy. After the accident, the two persons in the truck, were trapped inside it's wrecked cabin. The Fire Department had to be called in to extract them using the jaws of life.

Miraculously, they were transported to the KHMH alive, and they are said to be in a critical condition. Police didn't provide any information about the driver of the SUV. They did say that a notice of intended prosecution has been served.
