Tonight, 20 year-old Everal Sambula is at the Belize Central Prison after he and another man was taken to court for being in possession of an illegal weapon.

Sambula and 24 year-old Akeem Augustine were taken to court today before Magistrate Emerson Banner, but the prosecution withdrew all charges against Augustine, because they had no evidence against him.Â

But, he didn't get off completely because he was arraigned on driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license, and driving an unlicensed motor vehicle. He pleaded guilty to both offenses, and he was sentenced to pay fines to a total of $150. He must pay those fines by June 15th, or else he will spend 6 weeks in jail in default.

In Sambula's case, however, he was arraigned on the offenses of keeping an unlicensed firearm, and keeping unlicensed ammunition. He pleaded not guilty, and was remanded into custody until June 28th.

Around 5:00 on May 8th. police were on mobile patrol at the corner of Jones Street and McKay Boulevard in Lake Independence, and heard gunshots coming from Miller street. They proceeded to the area and they began to chase a four door car.Â

The car came to a stop on Gladden Street, when the driver ran it into a drain. The police saw a man wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans short pants make a dash from the car's backseat, with what appeared to be a gun in his hand. They said the man ran across the street into a yard. One of the officers fired a warning shot into the air, but the gunman did not stop. Instead he threw the gun over a fence. They apprehended the alleged gunman, who they identified as Sambula, and they retrieved the gun which turned out to be a 38 revolver with 3 rounds of ammunition in its chamber. Augustine was the driver.

Notably, Sambula had been charged for the armed robbery of Premium Wines and Spirts in September of last year.
