And so, while that’s what the Assistant Commissioner of the Port Authority had to say about their inquiry into this explosion, Assistant Fire Chief Benisford Matura told us that members of the public are putting themselves at risk of getting badly hurt or worse with the practice of sitting at the back of the boat, near to the engines, and and the flammable fuel.

Here’s what he had to say about that in Monday’s press briefing on their initial findings at the scene:

Reporter
"Was it that these children and their parents were in the closest proximity to where the blast happened, and that’s why they got the most injuries?"

Benisford Matura - Assistant Fire Chief
"Yes, exactly that - we - people have a tendency to go to sit at the back of the boat because that gives you the smoothest ride. And that’s where they were, unfortunately, on the back seat, and that was right next to the engine, and right where the fumes had settled.

Sources close to Jaime Iteriano tell us that he is in Xaibe recovering from the injuries he suffered in the explosion. His common-law wife, Roseli Catch is also from Xiabe. The funeral for the 2 children was held yesterday.

Iteriano will be at home for approximately a month, recovering from burn injuries he suffered to his arms, his legs, and his head. We are told the heat from the explosion burnt off a portion of his hair on one side of his head.Â
